first off, I think you'll have to select the person carefully because someone can't just show up with fancy tech parts and no explanation of where they got them from or how they knew what they were unless there's a good reason for them to have them.

And with the limited options they had for the scientifically inclined who had built their own attempts at portal among the current imPorts, it wasn't that hard to make the leap of logic. Especially since he'd referenced himself as part of a two-man team and (again) made the assumption that was all the dimensional expert scientists the constellation had access to.
